The Agua
Fria National Monument is one of the newer additions to our National
Park treasures. The
Bureau of Land Management manages the Monument and is hosting this
trip. We’ll bird along the Agua
Fria River, which has been determined suitable for Wild and Scenic
Status. The riparian corridor is dominated by an over-story of cottonwood
and willow that shelter many different species of songbirds and raptors.
Among these birds are Cooper’s and red-tailed hawks, kingbirds,
vireos, wrens, warblers and sparrows. We will be hiking so remember to
wear sun protection and good hiking boots that may get wet. Hike is on
uneven sandy surfaces with some rocks with a moderate elevation change.
Reptiles are abundant in the springtime. There are no facilities at the
site. Box lunch is included. |
