Essay & Poster Contest
2010
| The 10th Annual Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival is pleased to sponsor the “Why Are the Verde River and Other Waterways Important to Our Natural Environment?” essay and poster artwork contests. We are sponsoring two educational competitions: an essay contest and a poster contest, with up to four winners per contest. The winners of the essay contest will be presented a set of binoculars and an invitation for them and their class to attend the Student Day on April 24, 2010. (Classes will be responsible for their own transportation). Home schools are welcome to compete. The four students who submit the essay that best complies with the criteria listed below will be awarded a set of binoculars. They and their class will be invited to attend a special field trip at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The poster contest winners will be recognized and awarded a birding book and t-shirt at the Student Day. The winners will be invited to join the essay contest winner’s class (in the appropriate age group) for a field trip at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The entries will be judged on content and organization, as well as the student’s ability to meet the Arizona Academic Standards for language arts for their grade level. We have complimentary poster board available for your poster entry at the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce and Dead Horse Ranch State Park. You are welcome to use your own paper to design your poster entries, if you prefer. The entries with one winner per category per contest, will be
